Secretly we're all a little more absurd than we make ourselves out to be.

Who Am I?

The simplest way to describe myself is… Well, is there really any simple way for someone to describe themselves?

Hi! I’m Shaniqua and I love writing and I love tarot cards. My mother taught me how to read at the age of four and I’ve been a lover of literature ever since then. In college, I majored in English, with a writing concentration, and I’ve never stopped studying.

A few years ago, I came across the tarot and my entire life changed. Out of nowhere, a finite system containing infinite information was sitting in my pocket, and I could consult it whenever I wanted or needed it. Question about love? BOOM! Tarot. Question about work? BOOM! Tarot.

And I’d interpret the messages of the cards by journaling my reactions to the traditional meanings, imagery, colors, the suit, numbers on the cards, and even astrological and elemental associations. I quickly realized that writing and tarot made a perfect match.

I tend to take a spiritual view of writing. Our stories choose us. We channel them into being. Ever noticed how a story idea you had years ago ends up being an NYT bestseller or a hit movie? I rest my case. The story already exists outside of you. If you don’t birth it, someone else will be chosen to do so.

Combining the act of writing with a spiritual tool that holds seventy-eight facets of the human experience seemed like a no-brainer.

Thus, Writing with Tarot was born! Here, I’ll be diving into different writing topics (with a focus on fiction) and drawing on the tarot for inspiration, new understandings, and plain ole fun!
